Welcome

Welcome to the Victorian Gambling Study website. This three-year longitudinal study (which follows the same group of people over time) explores gambling in the state of Victoria, Australia, from a public health viewpoint. The study has surveyed people who gamble and non-gamblers in December and January from 2009 to 2012. Overall findings from the surveys will be presented in 2013.

This study recognises that while gambling is a fun pastime for many people, it can become a more serious problem for some. The hope is that the findings from this research will improve our understanding of the factors that might cause someone who gambles heavily to become a problem gambler.

The overall findings from this study will help with the development of prevention and early intervention options, as well as improved treatment services for problem gamblers across Victoria and Australia.
