About Us

As of 1 July 2012 this study is managed and funded by theVictorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, a statutory authority tasked with reducing the prevalence and harms of problem gambling and promoting responsible gambling in Victoria.

The study is conducted by a principal research team consisting of Australian and international specialists in gambling research, epidemiology (the study of the causes, distribution, and control of disease in populations) and biostatistics (the application of statistics to a wide range of topics in biology). Epidemiology is a branch of medical science that deals with the study of the causes, distribution, and control of disease in populations. Biostatistics is the application of statistics to a wide range of topics in biology.

Initially commissioned by the State Government of Victoria, the Victorian Gambling Study is governed by a steering committee including representatives from the Victorian Department of Justice, the Victorian Department of Health and the Foundation.
